Ghost Kitchens and Home Chefs are the next big thing! Learn how these you can save rental money and provide awesome food and delivery conveniences.
What are Ghost Kitchens
Ghosts kitchens may sound foreign to some, but it is essentially made up of a central kitchen with no service tables and does not accommodate dine-ins. In most cases, ghost kitchens do not entertain walk-in customers either and operate on a full take-away basis.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen a huge increase in demand for such take away concepts. And in some cases, we have heard of delivery partners setting up central kitchens of their own and jump on the bandwagon in ghost kitchens.
These setups are really cost-efficient as they eradicate the need to provide service tables and additional service crew. The entire rental payable goes straight to the kitchen space, eliminating the need for 60% service space and 40% kitchen space.
As a result, these operators are able to solely focus on the quality of their food and the delivery timeliness to ensure great customer satisfaction and service.
A truly ideal working setup amidst this COVID-19 period.
Dine Inn: Home Based Delivery
Apart from ghosts kitchens, homeowners are turning Michelin Chefs during this Circuit Breaker period at home. They’ve found a new love – “I can actually cook well”. Resulting in us seeing people setting up what we call “Home Chefs” right in their home, as mentioned in an article from TODAY.
The application DINE INN has gotten so popular and have since featured many home aspiring chefs where these chefs sell 4-course dinner over the application, and are making a decent amount.
Our guess is that during this circuit breaker, these home chefs may be experimenting with new dishes and will continue to connect with their food-goers through online deliveries from May 12th onwards after Home-based businesses are able to resume.
Aspiring Michelin Chefs
If you aspire to get started as a Home Chef, you will need to register your home as a business and apply for a relevant license in order to get started. You can read more here.
We are strong believers in the ghost kitchen concept because we are living in a world of instant gratification and we believe that people will continue to want to enjoy their favorite food while watching Netflix in the comfort of their homes.
